Africa’s clean energy transition is accelerating, but technology deployment alone will not deliver inclusive, resilient and sustainable energy systems. Renewable energy technologies must be supported by the skills, institutions, business models, data systems and stakeholder partnerships needed to make circularity practical. This webinar examines how CEPREC’s WP8 capacity-building activities are helping to move circular renewable energy systems from concept towards implementation across diverse African contexts.
Drawing on emerging learning from CEPREC workshops and stakeholder engagement activities, the webinar will explore the practical capabilities required to support circular microgrids, second-life batteries, lifecycle management, digitalisation, circular business models and policy engagement. It will consider how participants and partners are engaging with circular economy principles, including repair, reuse, refurbishment, repurposing and recycling, alongside the standards, financing mechanisms and local technical capabilities needed to apply them effectively.
The session will argue that capacity building should be understood as a core implementation pathway rather than a supporting activity. Scaling circular renewable energy systems requires more than awareness. Stakeholders need practical tools, applied knowledge, trusted partnerships and context-sensitive learning pathways. The webinar will therefore examine what CEPREC is learning about technical, data, governance and economic capabilities, and how these insights can inform future training, professional development, policy dialogue and research-to-practice activities.
By connecting workshop evidence, stakeholder feedback and CEPREC’s wider research agenda, the webinar will demonstrate how capacity building can help translate circular energy research into practical action and support a more inclusive, resilient and locally grounded energy transition across Africa.
